Advancing Equity and Excellence through Universal Design for Learning
Details
Presenters:Molly Boyle - Molly is the project coordinator for the Equity and Excellence in Higher Education project at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She also works as a trainer and technical assistance provider for Think College. Molly provides professional development to college faculty, administrators and disability support personnel on Universal Course Design and effective teaching strategies for ensuring equal access to all students, including those with disabilities. Previously, she coordinated the Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment project for students with intellectual disabilities at MassBay Community College in Wellesley, MA. Molly's expertise includes the provision of individual supports for postsecondary education for people with intellectual/ developmental disabilities, universal design for learning, online teaching, and adaptive technologies. Summary:Universal Course Design is a professional development concept that strives to make learning accessible to all students, no matter their individual backgrounds. The webinar provided advanced strategies employed by UCD with a focus on the four key principles: curriculum, instruction, assessment and environment.

Summary:Making data-based decisions in practice and policy is essential, and often mandated for effective service for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Agencies at the federal, state, and local level collect large amounts for accountability and, in fact, provide public access to parts or all of the data. This provides a wonderful opportunity for early researchers and doctoral students in the I/DD field to utilize the information in developing a line of research and further the practices and policies affecting individuals with I/DD. In this webinar, the presenters discussed their use of large data sets in examining current practices and policies addressing individuals with I/DD. Duration:1 hour
